Regisseur DETLEF SOELTER (Wiener Staatsoper, Slovenian National Theater) and conductor/pianist/coach TIM RIBCHESTER (Academy of Vocal Arts, North Carolina Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Trentino Music Festival) are offering two Berlin seminar days per month for the remainder of the 2017-2018 season. Drawing on the unique teaching skills of the two artists and their professional rapport as stage director and conductor, the seminars offer singers the chance to hone their acting and musical skills with integrated guidance and peer feedback in a supportive environment.

ROLE STUDY SEMINAR

Participating singers bring the assigned complete solo scena as normally presented in audition.

16 February La Traviata “È strano…Sempre libera” (Violetta) uncut version preferred

23 March Ariadne auf Naxos “Großmächtige Prinzessin” (Zerbinetta)

20 April Così fan tutte “Temerari…Come scoglio” and/or “Ei parte…Per pietà” (Fiordiligi)

18 May Fidelio “Abscheulicher…Komm, Hoffnung” (Leonora)

  • Discussion of the role and character development

  • Workshopping of the scena with focus on integration of musicality with stage acting/presence

  • Open discussion on audition strategy, etiquette, and other aspects of opera career building
